how it works - 6 step process

Step 1

DEFINE SCOPE

A tailored questionnaire will help to define your project scope, including project information, room(s), requested deliverables (i.e. drawings, millwork, plumbing fixtures, lighting, furnishings etc. Learn more about deliverable options below), and budget. From here, we prepare a tailored quotation that reflects your unique project. A $150 engagement fee is collected at this step to ensure commitment to the process; it will be credited towards your project should we continue onto next steps.

step 2

review quotation

Based on your project scope defined in step 1, we will deliver a personalized quotation for review and approval. Once your quotation is approved, a retainer of 50% of the total project cost is collected to proceed onto step 3.

step 3

share ideas

This is an important opportunity to share your ideas and inspiration with us! A questionnaire will help to define your personal style and project vision. You’ll also be able to upload inspiration images or share links that capture your intended project aesthetic.

step 4

review deliverables

A live link will take you to your secure project dashboard where you can view deliverable specifications - like product brand, dimensions, finishes and links. Additionally, you can approve products and provide feedback. Learn more about deliverable options below.

step 5

finalize design

Revisions are live on your client dashboard - and will remain accessible for one year post completion. A remaining 50% payment is required at this step of the process.

With the flexibility to define your scope of work at the outset, what you receive is thoughtfully tailored to your project’s unique needs. Below is a list of BBDs virtual interior design deliverables:

BBD uses AutoCAD to create technical drawings that reflect our signature balance of form and function.

  • Vision board - design concepts, overall pallet, inspiration, high level finish combinations

  • Floor plans

  • Electrical plans

  • Furniture plans

  • Millwork (floor plan, elevation(s), door profile, material, finish, hardware)

We work with a trusted group of vendors who offer a broad range of products for specification. Every project is unique, and we welcome your vendor preferences - these can be shared during step 3 of the process. BBD uses a live online platform to share your project dashboard - including product specifications during step four and five of the virtual design process.

  • Hard surfaces (countertop, floor, shower floor, shower walls etc.)

  • Plumbing (sink, faucet, toilet, tub etc.)

  • Lighting (ceiling, wall, lamp)

  • Furnishings (rug, sofa, chair, coffee table etc.)

BBDs full-service interior design studio offers a comprehensive, hands-on experience ideal for larger-scale renovations and new-build projects. It includes in-person consultations, site visits, project management, product procurement and professional installation. Virtual interior design offers a more flexible, accessible approach. Typically focused on select spaces within your home, it delivers a tailored design that you can implement at your own pace. This option offers the expertise of a professional designer while allowing you to manage purchasing and installation independently.

How much does your design service cost?

We offer both full-service interior design and virtual interior design, each with its own pricing structure. Our goal is to provide clear, transparent pricing that reflects the level of expertise and attention your project requires. Virtual interior design begins with a questionnaire to help define your project scope. Following your questionnaire submission we provide a comprehensive quotation specific to your project. Full-service interior design is a more tailored approach and begins with a conversation and consultation to help define your project scope. As a guideline, full-service interior design services generally account for about 10% of the overall project budget. Following your detailed consultation, we provide a comprehensive quotation specific to your project.

What service is right for my project?

The right service depends on the scale of your project and the experience you’re looking for. Full-service interior design is best suited for larger, more complex projects where you want a designer to oversee details from start to finish. Virtual interior design is ideal for smaller-scale projects or single spaces, offering the same level of design expertise in a format that allows you to implement the plan at your own pace. Virtual interior design is also a great option for projects located outside of Calgary, Alberta.

How long does a typical design project take?

We move with the pace of the project. Virtual interior design projects typically take two to four months from start to finish, depending on the scope of work. From there, the timeframe for implementation is up to you. Full-service interior design projects can take anywhere from one to three years to complete, depending on the level of detail, size of the home and the builder’s timeline.
